Toothie

Last night Ains was playing with her loose tooth at the dinner table. Now I'm not normally a squeamish person...things like blood and guts don't bother me much but watching my daughter twist her tooth at the table was almost too much! "Look Mom, my tooth is backwards!" She could almost twist it around like an owl turns its head. Thankfully Mike couldn't see that far from where he was seated on the couch feeding Dylan or he might have lost his dinner! This is when Ainsley's tooth got a name...Toothie and you guessed it, Toothie is a girl.
This morning Ains woke up and came out to the table, requesting some breakfast and I turned just in time to notice that Toothie was missing. I asked Ains where her tooth was and she paused for a moment and then thrust her tongue into the partially empty spot where Toothie used to reside. Then, just to make sure, she had to check the spot with her finger and then gasped with amazement and question all in one..."I don't know?!" We went running to tell Daddy that Ains lost her tooth and that we didn't know where it was. As Ains showed Mike the Toothie-less spot in her mouth, I ran to her room and gently searched the sheets and pillows on the bed. Aha...Toothie was just having a snooze in the bed. Much better spot to take a nap than in Ainsley's stomach, which was my first thought! Now she takes up residence in a Ziploc snack baggie that says, "Ainsley's first tooth lost sometime between June 13th and 14th" She is really excited and says that Toothie reminds her of a popcorn kernel...with a little spot of blood!
