Ainsley's Recital and Adventures in Potty Training

Ainsley had her ballet recital on Tuesday afternoon. It was pretty funny because for as much as she is a performer, she sure doesn't like performing in front of people. They usually warm-up in their classroom and then move to the bigger room for the performance...well, she spent almost the entire warm-up time sitting on the floor watching her class! Finally one of her instructors got her to participate so she actually did something for the performance which was good because my mom came down and Mike left work early to come see it! It was pretty cute overall and she was really excited that she got to show everyone the things she learned this year.

So, I've started potty training Z...I know, a little late but I just didn't have it in me towards the end of my pregnancy with Jess or shortly after she was born when he'd be going places three times a week. He has to be potty trained before he starts the three year old class in August or he can't go. This is way different for me than potty training Ains was...for obvious plumbing reasons but also because with Ains we did it during a Christmas break so Mike was home to help and we only had her and Z then. I feel like I'm constantly following him around all the time. He understands when he needs to get to the bathroom but sometimes he either doesn't pull his unders down fast enough or he pees a little and then can't finish at the toilet. Before lunch today we tried to go pee pee and he didn't go so we washed hands and started eating. Then he said he needed to go and went running to the potty after going a little in his underwear. Then we stood at the potty for what seemed like an eternity and nothing happened. So, we washed hands and he tells me, "I'm peeing!" so we run back to the potty and he stands there with nothing happening. Finally he starts and just laughs! He gets the biggest kick out of "shooting" the potty! And this may be too much info but I think its hilarious...he always tells me, "I'm going to keez it, just a little bit." He can't say the squ blend at the beginning of "squeeze" so it sounds like "keez it"! Makes me laugh every time! Anyway, hopefully we get over the hump of training and we can leave the diapers behind soon. If anyone has any helpful tips or hints for training boys, I'd be much obliged! Below are some pictures of him playing dress-up with my mom's reading glasses and his knight armor.

THE END!

For both boys, leaving them completely naked helped when they first started. This way we didn't have to worry about pulling their pants down, and it seemed to help them realize when they had to go too. Then we moved to just underwear, then underwear and shirt, then pants too. And if he is having trouble aiming in the water (I know with Caleb, that was a challenge), you can put some Cheerios or something like it in the toilet for them to aim at. Hope that helps!
